Overview

The MedStar Georgetown University Hospital Otolaryngology Academic Day is a premier educational event dedicated to advancing the field of Otolaryngology within the MedStar system and the greater DC, MD, and Northern VA region. This event is designed to provide continuing medical education (CME)-based training for otolaryngologists, ensuring they stay current on the latest advancements, treatments, and technologies in the field. This educational event brings together healthcare professionals, thought leaders, and industry innovators to exchange knowledge and foster collaboration.


Objectives
After completing this activity, the participant will be able to:

  1. Apply practical knowledge regarding establishing an otolaryngology practice in different practice settings.
  2. Describe the presentation, diagnosis and management of common etiologies of chronic cough in the adult and pediatric population encountered by practicing otolaryngologists.
  3. Enumerate the practical considerations for building a sleep surgery practice in academic, government, and community otolaryngology settings.
  4. Compare and contrast the experience of building a sleep surgery practice before and after the introduction of hypoglossal nerve stimulator implantation to surgical training.
  5. Employ approaches and techniques to optimize surgical education.
  6. Summarize how approaches to surgical education have evolved and grown.
  7. Identify the indications and implementation of circulating tumor DNA for diagnosis and surveillance of HPV-associated head and neck cancer.
  8. Describe the evolving role of immunotherapy in the treatment of head and neck malignancy.

Accreditation

In support of improving patient care, this activity has been planned and implemented by MedStar Health and Georgetown University. MedStar Health is jointly accredited by the Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education (ACCME), the Accreditation Council for Pharmacy Education (ACPE), and the American Nurses Credentialing Center (ANCC), to provide continuing education for the healthcare team. 

Credit Designation

This activity was planned by and for the healthcare team, and learners will receive 6.00 Interprofessional Continuing Education (IPCE) credits for learning and change.

Physicians: MedStar Health designates this live activity for a maximum of 6.00 AMA PRA Category 1 Credits™. Physicians should claim only the credit commensurate with the extent of their participation in the activity. 

Physician Assistants:  MedStar Health has been authorized by the American Academy of PAs (AAPA) to award AAPA Category 1 CME credit for activities planned in accordance with AAPA CME Criteria. This activity is designated for 6.00 AAPA Category 1 CME credits. PAs should only claim credit commensurate with the extent of their participation.

The symposium will be held at the Thomas & Dorothy Leavey Center at Georgetown University, located at 1560 Tondorf Rd, Washington, DC 20057.

PARKING

Visitors who do not hold a current parking pass for MGUH will receive a parking pass for the Leavey Garage via email the day prior to the event. This pass must be printed and displayed on your dashboard. There are parking areas for GU and MGUH, and you must park in the MGUH spots only.

DIRECTIONS FROM LEAVEY GARAGE TO CONFERENCE CENTER

The event will be hosted in the Leavey Conference Center, located at 1560 Tondorf Rd, Washington, DC 20057, Salons A-C on the ground level (level L or 1). Signage may also read Georgetown University Hotel and Conference Center.

To find the symposium, take the elevator or stairs from Leavey Garage parking to level L (Hotel and Conference Center Lobby). When exiting the elevator or stairs (marked by red star on the map), turn left and down a short flight of steps to the hotel lobby. Follow overhead signs for Conference Center and Meeting Rooms to the right of the elevators in the lobby. Continue down the hall until you have reached the West Lobby, where you will find salons A, B, and C.

WALKING DIRECTIONS FROM ALTERNATE PARKING LOCATION

If you park elsewhere and prefer to use your phone for walking directions, please map to the Thomas & Dorothy Leavey Center and it will take you to the hotel lobby entrance.

When entering from the hotel lobby, follow the hallway to the right of the lobby elevators with overhead signage that reads Conference Center and Meeting Rooms. Continue down the hall until you have reached the West Lobby, where you will find salons A, B, and C.

CHECK IN

A check-in table will be set up outside the entrance to greet you upon arrival.
