2022 MWHC Critical Care Performance Improvement - 12/1/2022

The purpose of this RSS is to identify and review clinical cases for which there may be variation from accepted clinical practice and/or established guidelines. The case reviews will be utilized to facilitate the critical review, creation, and modification of evidence-based guidelines when appropriate for Critical Care Medicine to continually evaluate and improve the overall quality of care in our department.

1. Practice of interprofessional mutual education, where each profession educates learners in other disciplines of current practices in his field and scientific rationale for these advances.
2. Develop a personal habit of continuous lifelong knowledge acquisition with direct applicability to patient care, replacing old methods of care and procedures with new proven approaches that will improve patient outcomes.
3. Distinguish between an unavoidable poor patient outcome and a failure to utilize best practices in the setting of an adverse patient outcome.
4. Apply the knowledge gained from the discussion of the care of an individual patient to the care of future patients within the framework of best practices and hospital policies.
5. Utilize case presentations, applying adult learning principles, evidence-based literature citations, audience engagement and measured improvement in sequential experiences.

In support of improving patient care, this activity has been planned and implemented by MedStar Health. MedStar Health is jointly accredited by the Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education (ACCME), the Accreditation Council for Pharmacy Education (ACPE), and the American Nurses Credentialing Center (ANCC), to provide continuing education for the healthcare team.
