Overview
Human Factors is a multi-disciplinary science that focuses on understanding the interaction among humans and other elements of a system within a given environment. Applying human factors to healthcare reduces medical errors and allows clinicians to deliver better patient care. Human factors boosts work processes, enhances patient safety, reduces inefficiencies, and improves quality. As healthcare delivery becomes increasingly more complex, human factors engineering has proven to be a powerful approach for proactively reducing harm. MedStar Health is proud to offer this workshop which brings together leaders across the system including human factors engineers, risk management professionals, practicing clinicians, and healthcare safety leaders with vast experience studying risk and implementing innovative change within healthcare organizations. The workshop will include onsite simulation and a networking reception.

Objectives
After completing this activity, the participant will be able to:

  1. Describe core principles of safety science and human factors, and discuss how these principles can be applied to healthcare.
  2. Identify the standard methodologies and tools for evaluating safety events, technologies, and processes.
  3. Recognize the primary, secondary, and tertiary model of safety.
  4. Demonstrate human factors principles with hands on examples.
  5. Define the socio-technical systems model.
  6. Summarize how work-system elements interact to create safe/unsafe conditions.
  7. Explain the need for system solutions to support the way humans work, minimize the opportunity for error, and empower teams to deliver high-quality care.
  8. Apply human factors concepts to identify system hazards and develop solutions for safer care delivery systems.
  9. Evaluate how to use and implement innovative tools and techniques to support a human factors engineering approach in healthcare.
  10. Support knowledge on how to apply safety science and human factors to safety event reviews.
  11. Evaluate skills and knowledge on technologies during the procurement process.

Registration

 General Registration (September 9 - October 19, 2023): $895.00

Accreditation
