Overview
Two-day symposium on topics pertinent to improving the medical care to be given to patients suspected or known to have a special pathogen illness. Topics to be discussed range from the evolution of the National Special Pathogen System "NSPS" to programmatic design and implementation related to PPE, training and education, BCU program administration and special practice considerations.

Objectives
After completing this activity, the participant will be able to:

  1. Outline the evolution of the National Special Pathogen System since Covid
  2. Discuss the role NETEC and Regional Emerging Special Pathogen Treatment Centers play in enhancing EMS and hospital readiness for suspected special pathogen patients
  3. Describe key elements that effective prehospital and hospital planning for special pathogens should address
  4. Discuss the various operational challenges healthcare providers are facing when dealing with patients ill with a suspected or confirmed special pathogen patient
  5. Identify the emerging role telehealth is playing in patient care and personnel safety
  6. Discuss the ethical and medico/legal issues associated with the medical care of adult and pediatric special pathogen patients
