Overview

Registration is closed and will re-open onsite April 10, 2024 at the JW Marriott, Washington, D.C.

Join us this April to experience an inclusive and interactive agenda with interdisciplinary line-up of key opinion leaders, and the latest innovations. DLS is highly regarded as one of the world’s finest limb salvage events and brings together the most eminent lower limb specialists for an unforgettable meeting. In 2024 DLS is partnering with the Wound Healing Foundation for unparalleled learning experience. The Wound Healing Foundation was founded on the commitment to wound care and to provide patients, researchers, and health professionals the resources to make significant contributions in wound healing. This annual conference focuses on a multidisciplinary team approach that provides each member of the healthcare team with the education and resources needed to heal wounds and prevent amputations. It features a prominent international faculty that promotes the importance of a multispecialty approach in limb salvage. The course is designed for healthcare practitioners of all specialties and promotes an evidence-based approach with emphasis on take-home points, techniques, and functional outcomes.

Objectives
After completing this activity, the participant will be able to:

  1. Analyze the public health crisis of diabetic limb loss.
  2. Discuss the challenge of sensory loss and non-compliance to care.
  3. Describe how a multidisciplinary hospital or community-based limb salvage team can best provide efficient and effective care.
  4. Recognize the hospital and community based administrative challenges of a limb salvage team and how to overcome them.
  5. Examine the options in vascular interventional technology and techniques, both surgical and endovascular.
  6. Promote the practice of functional limb salvage so that patients maximize their active ambulatory status.
  7. Distinguish the role of infection and bacterial contamination in wound healing and limb salvage surgery.
  8. Navigate the complexities of biomechanics, limb salvage, the problem wound, wound based infection, preserving limb length and charcot deformity.
  9. Cite the financial and social impact of diabetic limb salvage and amputation.
  10. Promote functional amputation in patients that require a lower extremity amputation.
  11. Discuss rehabilitation, post-surgical care, and team-based care for the complex patient.
  12. Discuss the complexity of the compromised host and how to best identify and manage complications.
  13. Explore patient education strategies for preventing complications.
  14. Evaluate the effectiveness of vascular interventions in limb salvage.
  15. Recognize the financial and social impact of diabetic limb salvage and amputation.
  16. Discuss the latest advancements in wound healing relevant to limb salvage.
  17. Discuss the psychosocial aspects of living with diabetic limb issues.
  18. Explore innovations in prosthetics and orthotics for functional limb restoration
  19. Identify the roles and responsibilities of members of the healthcare team involved in the collaborative care for prevention of diabetic limb loss.
  20. Integrate a team-based approach in the care of patients to prevent diabetic limb loss.
