Overview

This half-day multidisciplinary conference will provide a comprehensive update on the recent clinical advances in treating and managing Alzheimer’s and other dementias. It will benefit primary care physicians, nurses, social workers, pharmacists and other specialties working in the field of Alzheimer’s and dementia care. At the conclusion of the study conference, attendees should understand the diagnosis and management of dementia and the new advances in dementia care, including the new care models. With these advances, healthcare professionals must be aware of society in general and continue to advocate for better treatments and support.

REGISTRATION IS CURRENTLY CLOSED AND WILL RE-OPEN ONSITE AT THE BETHESDA MARRIOTT ON FEBRUARY 8, 2025.


Objectives
After completing this activity, the participant will be able to:

  1. Describe the benefits of annual cognitive screenings and early diagnosis.
  2. Describe the relationship between modifiable risk factors, lifestyle and brain health.
  3. Describe the diagnostic approach and staging of Alzheimer’s and other dementias.
  4. Describe the benefits and limitations of diagnostic techniques.
  5. Describe and manage behavioral disorders associated with dementia.
  6. Describe the new treatments for Alzheimer’s disease and the implications of their use.
  7. Describe the advances in Alzheimer’s and dementia research.
  8. Describe the common challenges impacting all dementia caregivers.
  9. Describe the available assistance to caregivers in navigating the disease through all stages.
  10. Integrate a team-based approach in the care of patients with Alzheimer's and dementia.

Accreditation

In support of improving patient care, this activity has been planned and implemented by MedStar Health and Alzheimer’s Association. MedStar Health is jointly accredited by the Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education (ACCME), the Accreditation Council for Pharmacy Education (ACPE), and the American Nurses Credentialing Center (ANCC), to provide continuing education for the healthcare team. 

Credit Designation

This activity was planned by and for the healthcare team, and learners will receive 3.75 Interprofessional Continuing Education (IPCE) credits for learning and change.

Nurses: This activity is approved for 3.75 ANCC contact hours. Nurses should claim only the credit commensurate with the extent of their participation in the activity.

Pharmacists: This activity is approved for 3.75 contact hours. This learning activity is knowledge-based. The Universal Activity Number for this program is JA4008151-9999-25-022-L01-P.
