Smith Surgical Scholarships will be awarded to allow residents in training, colorectal fellows throughout the world, and practicing surgeons in developing countries to attend this highly anticipated conference.

MedStar Health is pleased to announce the call for abstracts for the International Colorectal Disease Symposium 2026 taking place on June 18 to 19, 2026 at the Fairmont Georgetown in Washington, D.C. 
The top abstracts selected will be given the opportunity to do quick shot presentations during scheduled coffee breaks. Top three abstracts will be awarded complimentary registration to the conference.

 



Abstracts will be reviewed and selected on the basis of their scientific merit and content quality. Submitted abstracts meeting eligibility requirements will be considered for presentation during the MedStar Health International Colorectal Disease Symposium 2026, June 18 to 19, 2026, in Washington, D.C. Select abstracts may be chosen for Quick Shot (Rapid Fire) oral presentations.

We invite you to participate by submitting a 250-word abstract of original research in the field of colorectal surgery on one of these topics:

  • Benign Abdominal
  • Benign Anorectal
  • Malignant Diseases
  • Pelvic Floor
  • Inflammatory Bowel Disease
  • Basic Science
  • New Technology

Abstracts that have been submitted to other meetings are eligible for submission, provided they have not been published.

All material presented in the abstract must be current, relevant, and free from ethical bias. Company logos of supporting companies are prohibited on any part of the presentation.

 

Submission Deadline

Abstracts must be submitted by March 23, 2026, via the online submission system on the conference website.

Optional Video Abstract Submission (NOT REQUIRED):
If you choose to submit a video abstract, you must still provide a 250-word written abstract.

Video requirements:

  • Length: 1–3 minutes maximum.
  • Videos exceeding 3 minutes may be disqualified.
  • The video must be your final version at time of submission. If accepted, the same video must be played during your presentation without edits.

Abstract Review & Notification

  • Applicants notified of acceptance by April 14, 2026
  • Abstracts are selected based on scientific merit.
  • Travel, hotel, and registration are NOT included with acceptance.
  • At least one presenting/submitting author per abstract must register for the conference.

Presentation Formats

Accepted presenters may present in one of the following formats:

  1. Oral presentation with electronic poster, OR
  2. Oral presentation with video presentation

Electronic posters will be displayed on digital boards at the conference.
(No physical poster size is required.)

Quick Shot (Rapid Fire) Oral Presentations (select abstracts only):

  • Total time: 5 minutes (3 minutes presentation + 2 minutes Q&A)
  • Limited to one (1) presenter only.
  • If a video was submitted, the same video must be used without edits.

You may submit more than one abstract; however, if selected for an oral presentation, you may present only one orally. Additional accepted abstracts will be electronic poster-only.

Awards

The top three abstracts will receive complimentary conference registration.
