Overview

Breast Cancer Coordinated Care (BC3) 2026 returns to Washington, D.C., as the definitive three-day symposium for multidisciplinary breast cancer coordinated care, bridging the gap between breast and plastic surgery, oncology, radiology, radiation oncology, pathology, physical therapy, occupational therapy, social work, nursing, and all fields related to breast cancer coordinated care. By evaluating successful care models and innovative approaches from major centers across the United States, this course tackles the field’s most pressing controversies and moves to deconstruct siloed treatment approaches. Attendees will engage in high-level discussions on cutting-edge diagnostic tools and novel management strategies, with the collective goal of developing standardized, evidence-based protocols that redefine the standard of breast cancer coordinated care.

Objectives
After completing this activity, the participant will be able to:

  1. Integrate an Interdisciplinary Care Model: Identify the unique roles and responsibilities of each healthcare team member to foster a seamless, team-based approach for both the prevention and treatment of breast cancer.
  2. Enhance Patient Communication: Effectively explain the management of side effects from various breast cancer treatments to patients, ensuring better adherence and quality of life during survivorship
  3. Redefine the Nipple Sparing Mastectomy: Current evolution of nipple sparing mastectomy can support direct to implant reconstruction with minimal complication profile. This leads to improvement in quality of life, decreased surgical burden, and cost savings for the health system
  4. De-escalate Surgical Treatment: Identify current indications for radiation therapy and explain its evolving role in allowing for the de-escalation of more invasive surgical procedures.
  5. Master Axillary Management: Describe evidence-based options for the management of a positive sentinel lymph node biopsy, focusing on the transition from routine dissection to more targeted interventions.
  6. Collaborate on Lymphedema Care: Explain to practitioners the multidisciplinary prevention and management of lymphedema, including physiologic surgical options and the role of physical therapy in long-term risk reduction.
  7. Evaluate Transgender Screening Protocols: Identify appropriate breast cancer screening strategies for transgender patients, navigating the controversies surrounding hormonal impact on tissue and residual risk post-gender-affirming surgery.
  8. Navigate Triple Negative Breast Cancer (TNBC): Describe the latest neoadjuvant and adjuvant systemic therapies for TNBC and how these treatments influence subsequent surgical and reconstructive planning.
  9. Assess Emerging Technologies: Evaluate the role of artificial intelligence, liquid biopsy (ctDNA), and advanced imaging in the modern diagnosis and management of breast disease.
  10. Analyze Socioeconomic Impacts: Recognize the effects of financial toxicity and healthcare disparities on patient access to innovative care and reconstructive options.
