Overview
The MedStar Integrated Surgical Service "Back to the Future of Surgery" Alumni Surgical Research and Innovation Summit is designed to offer a comprehensive overview of the cutting-edge work done to advance surgical care at MedStar Health. Division and Program surgical experts will discuss the major advances in surgery that are being developed and refined at MedStar Health including advancement in patient outcomes through new techniques and technologies, challenges and solutions in surgical and medical education, multidisciplinary team care, shared decision making and new understanding of complex surgical care, surgical learner development as well as programmatic development and growth. Ample time has been allocated for networking, discussion, questions and answers.

Objectives
After completing this activity, the participant will be able to:

  1. Gain insights into surgical advances and cutting-edge techniques for improved patient outcomes in surgery.
  2. Gain insights into surgical advances and cutting-edge techniques for improved patient outcomes in surgery. Discuss challenges and opportunities in surgical medical education and programmatic and faculty development.
  3. Promote multidisciplinary, collaborative team-based approaches to complex surgical care.

Accreditation: In support of improving patient care, MedStar Health is jointly accredited by the Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education (ACCME), the Accreditation Council for Pharmacy Education (ACPE), and the American Nurses Credentialing Center (ANCC) to provide continuing education for the healthcare team.


Credit Designation: This activity was planned by and for the healthcare team, and learners will receive 5.75 Interprofessional Continuing Education (IPCE) credits for learning and change.
