Overview

This one-day multidisciplinary conference will provide a comprehensive update on recent clinical advances in lung cancer. The field is evolving very rapidly and over the past few years, there have been major shifts in our understanding of this highly lethal disease. We have seen high impact advances in all aspects of lung cancer management: from detection to diagnosis to treatment. The D.C. Lung Cancer Conference will emphasize current best practices for busy clinicians who care for patients with lung cancer, across disciplines. High impact, engaging didactic lectures will be delivered by international thought leaders and well-respected faculty in each field. An opening talk from a patient advocate will provide an important perspective. There will be updates on CT screening, proper use of liquid biopsy, interpretation of molecular testing results and review of smoking cessation techniques. A section will be dedicated to optimizing multidisciplinary care for early stage and locally advanced lung cancer to include discussions on minimally invasive surgery and both neoadjuvant and adjuvant systemic therapy, including targeted agents and immunotherapy. Additional sessions will discuss the optimal management of specific molecular subsets of lung cancer, highlighting all currently approved agents, and will also highlight rarer thoracic tumors such as thymic malignancies and mesothelioma. Each session will include a detailed case discussion. Attendees will have the opportunity to interact with faculty in frequent Q&A sessions with access to presentation materials for later review.

Proceeds from the 2026 D.C. Lung Cancer Conference will be used to benefit the Lung Cancer Care Research Fund.

Objectives
After completing this activity, the participant will be able to:

  1. Identify the survival benefit of CT screening for lung cancer.
  2. Describe the methods used for biomarker testing in lung cancer.
  3. Explain the approved use of neoadjuvant and perioperative immunotherapy for patients with resectable lung cancer.
  4. Debate the approach for a patient with EGFR-mutated non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC) with borderline resectable NSCLC.
  5. Describe the best initial therapy for advanced small cell lung cancer (SCLC).
  6. Discuss management of immune-mediated toxicities.
  7. Discuss standard targeted agents in use for patients with ALK-positive NSCLC.
  8. Explain the approved use of targeted therapy for KRAS-mutant NSCLC.
  9. Name the approved targeted agents for HER2 mutant NSCLC.
  10. Collaborate and learn with individuals/teams from other professions to improve patient outcomes.
