Overview
This annual educational symposium is proud to update our medical community on the state-of-the-art care of gastric cancer, gastrointestinal stromal tumors, and retroperitoneal sarcomas while focusing on the importance of a multidisciplinary approach to the diagnosis and treatment of these complex disease entities. National renowned guest speakers and distinguished faculty, including those from MedStar Health and MedStar Georgetown Cancer Institute, will discuss the significant roles of endoscopic procedures, evolving new diagnostic modalities, hereditary genetic testing, precision medicine, immune, regional, and molecular targeted therapies, and evolving biomarkers in these cancers. This symposium will also highlight evolving role of peritoneal based therapies for advanced gastric cancer.

Objectives
After completing this activity, the participant will be able to:

  1. Identify the diagnostic and therapeutic role of endoscopy in gastric cancer.
  2. Recognize the current standard of care and evolving approaches incorporating chemotherapy, immunotherapy, targeted therapy, surgery, and radiation in peri-operative management of gastric cancer, including unique approaches in mismatch repair deficient subtypes.
  3. Recognize the importance of tissue molecular markers and circulating tumor DNA in the diagnosis and treatment of advanced gastric cancer.
  4. Understand the evolving role of cytoreductive surgeries and intra-peritoneal therapies in the management of advanced gastric cancer with metastatic peritoneal disease.
  5. Identify hereditary syndromes and high-risk populations linked to gastric cancer and recognize evolving screening approaches
  6. Discuss the role of surgery in treating gastrointestinal stromal tumors and retroperitoneal sarcomas
  7. Discuss the roles of systemic and targeted therapies in gastrointestinal stromal tumors and retroperitoneal sarcomas.
  8. Identify the roles and responsibilities of members of the healthcare team involved in the collaborative care of patients with gastric cancer, gastrointestinal stromal tumors, and retroperitoneal sarcomas.
