Overview

Online registration is now closed.  We will start onsite registration at 7:15 am on Saturday, October 12.

This program's aim is to ensure participants are current with the latest topics in the field of gastroenterology as they relate to primary care. It will cover recent advances in diet and lifestyle changes as well controversies around treatment of various GI conditions presented by GI experts. As new guidelines and treatment options are presented, they are coupled with recommendations for incorporating these updates into day-to-day clinical practice.  This program offers a glimpse into the future of gastroenterology with engaging lectures by diverse members of the specialty to provide an interactive educational environment.


Objectives
At the conclusion of this activity, participants will be able to:

  1. Describe the updated guidelines for the diagnosis and treatment of GERD
  2. Identify appropriate use and side effects of proton pump inhibitors (PPIs)
  3. Describe updates and improve practices in surveillance and management of Barrett's esophagus
  4. Identify patients who should be screened for H pylori and apply best practices for treatment
  5. Implement screening guidelines for chronic Hepatitis B and C
  6. Identify the best use of non-invasive colon cancer screening method
  7. Identify which patients are candidates for bariatric surgery
  8. Recognize the role of the PCP in identifying and managing the epidemic of obesity and fatty liver
