Overview
The Update on Diabetes XLIV symposium provides an overview of the advances in diabetes care. The challenges of diabetes management and practical way to overcome these barriers will be addressed. Presentations will focus on best ways to control glucose through technology and medications, and individualizing treatments for patients with diabetes.

Objectives
After completing this activity, the participant will be able to:

  1. Recall the symptoms of meralgia paresthetica; it's incidence, causes, diagnosis and treatment.
  2. Distinguish between disorders of insulin resistance occurring at the level of the insulin receptor vs post-receptor.
  3. Relate when to treat pre-diabetes and the different treatment options, including dietary modification, exercise and consideration of oral agents.
  4. Interpret the basics of the Continuous Glucose Meter report.
  5. Identify the pathophysiology and treatment of dyslipidemia, including both non-pharmacological and pharmacological treatment approaches.
  6. Examine neurologic manifestations and complications of diabetes and their relevance to diagnosis and management.
  7. Express the appropriate treatment of severe outpatient hypoglycemia and describe new versions of glucagon to treat hypoglycemia.
  8. Explain the emerging collaboration between cardiology and endocrinology.
  9. Relate the evidence for strategies to assure longitudinal diabetes care and self management education.
  10. Describe the wide spectrum of fatty liver disease and the potential treatment approaches.
  11. Identify the roles and responsibilities of members of the healthcare team involved in the collaborative care for diabetes treatment.
  12. Integrate a team-based approach in the care of patients with diabetes.

WHERE DOES THE CONFERENCE TAKE PLACE?
This virtual event takes place completely online. The event uses a virtual environment that allows attendees to view lectures, submit questions to faculty, and connect with other attendees.

DO I HAVE TO ATTEND THE ENTIRE CONFERENCE?
At the end of the conference, you will receive a survey to attest to the number of credit hours you participated in. Please only claim credit that correlates with the number of hours you attended.

WHAT ABOUT CAMERA AND MIC ACCESS?
When you first sign into the virtual platform you will be asked to grant access to your camera and microphone. This is to enable these features should you wish to connect with other attendees over video chat. We will automatically mute you and have your camera off during general session lectures.

WHAT TECHNOLOGY DO I NEED?
You will need a computer or a device such as a laptop, desktop, or tablet. The website is not accessible via phone. You are not required to have a camera or mic capability to listen to the lectures or submit questions to the panel.

Please use a preferred browser such Chrome, Firefox or Safari to participate during the conference. The virtual conference is not accessible over Internet Explorer.

HOW CAN I GET TO THE CONFERENCE?
Registered attendees will receive a link via email to the conference virtual platform OnAir about a week before the event. The link will be sent to the email address you registered with and is how you will access all the conference content. You will use the same link to access the platform during the conference dates and to review recorded presentations after the event.

CAN I SHARE THIS LINK WITH OTHERS?
Just like an in-person meeting, registrations should not be shared. The registration provides a single sign-on secure experience for the user. Please note that recordings or downloaded conference material of any kind that are accessed on the platform should not be shared.

WHEN WILL SESSION MATERIAL BE AVAILABLE?
PDF copies of the presentations will be available for download on the session page from those presenters who gave consent to share. These are accessible after the conference date for up to 3 months.

CAN I CHAT WITH OTHERS DURING THE CONFERENCE?
YES! In each session, there is a chat feature that allows you to send messages to others in the session. There is also the Networking Hub where you can message other attendees, faculty, and industry directly with chat or video connections.

Live content will be recorded, subject to speaker permission, and posted on platform for on-demand viewing. You will continue to have access to session content and exhibit hall until July 20, 2022.
