Overview

This is part of a series of clinician focused webinars from the DC Cancer Coalition to increase cancer screening uptake in the District of Columbia.

This first webinar will cover the state of Breast Cancer Screening in the District and review current national screening guidelines. Breast cancer is the second leading cause of cancer death for women in the United States. Breast cancer screening rates in DC remain among the highest in the nation but high mortality remains an issue.

According to the American Cancer Society the survival rate is as high as 99% if breast cancer is caught early before it spreads. We will feature a multidisciplinary panel of experts from the ACS and the Brem Foundation to address new guidelines & technologies for the early breast cancer detection.

There will be updates on best practices for improve breast cancer screening in the most vulnerable populations in DC. Attendees will have the opportunity to interact with panel members in a Q&A session. Following the webinar we will provide access to presentation materials & patient breast cancer educational information.

Objectives
After completing this activity, the participant will be able to:

  1. Delineate roles and responsibilities of providers who frequently order screening/diagnostic mammograms
  2. Identify common breast cancer screening trends and disparities, especially as it applies to the eligible DC population
  3. Identify how emerging breast cancer screening innovations can increase screening uptake
