Overview
Cardiovascular disease remains the leading cause of morbidity and mortality in the United States. New treatment strategies, medications and device developments in multiple areas of cardiovascular disease intend to afford benefit to the millions of patients who suffer from these conditions. Given the rapid progress in cardiovascular medicine, it can be difficult for frontline providers to keep abreast of changes in preventive cardiology, pharmacotherapy, new innovative therapeutic procedures, diagnostic methods and new technologies. There are also many sources of information that people are learning from. It is important to provide a forum in which practicing healthcare providers are presented with new information in a way that establishes a common knowledge base. This course aims to shorten the translation from evidence to practice on a wide variety of cardiovascular issues including preventive cardiology, diagnostic methods, new innovative therapies and procedures. This meeting will bring together diverse members of the interdisciplinary practice team, towards creating a common knowledge base so important to the effectiveness of the care team in today's practice environment.

Objectives
At the conclusion of this activity, the Healthcare Team will be able to:

  1. Identify patients at risk for cardiovascular disease (CVD) and implement strategies to improve practice in cardiovascular prevention through optimally managed recognition and treatment of obstructive sleep apnea.
  2. Review the latest recommendations on acetylsalicylic acid, dual antiplatelet therapy, or triple therapy.
  3. Incorporate recent evidence on mobile applications into management strategies for patients with CVD.
  4. Analyze the emerging evidence and options for prevention, detection, risk assessment, rhythm and rate management, and stroke prevention and incorporate it into primary care strategies for atrial fibrillation.
  5. Review and describe the role of popular diets and cardiovascular health.
  6. Review the importance of proper transition of myocardial infarction and congestive health failure patients from inpatient to outpatient setting.
  7. Describe the pathophysiology of COVID-19 infection on the cardiovascular system.
  8. Review the latest interventional and surgical procedures to tackle valvular heart disease.
  9. Identify the roles and responsibilities of members of the healthcare team involved in the collaborative care of patients with CVD.
  10. Integrate a team-based approach in the care of patients with CVD.
